If it looks like it was designed by a spider on LSD, bad.
This will give you an idea if the database was professionally developed, or done in-house by "the guy that knows Filemaker." If it is organized, good. Go to Manage > Database, then look at the relationship graph. That being said, here are a couple of sure-fire ways to figure out if this is the situation: Ask if you can look at one of the databases using a full access account. I've been working with Filemaker since version 6 (2004), and in my experience, when an organization says "we want someone with working knowledge of Filemaker Pro" it usually means "the one employee who knew Filemaker quit a year ago, and we need someone to come in and fix all the stuff we've screwed up since then." If you're familiar with Access or SQL, Filemaker will be a little weird data and presentation are connected, for one thing, and Table Occurrence groups are a little strange to wrap your head around at first. The Missing Manual is a great place to start.
